Ideas for Innovation

The Foundation’s work is brought to life through a series of concrete initiatives designed to transform Valmorel into a laboratory for social and technological innovation. Each project is a vital piece of a broader vision that aims to demonstrate how marginal areas can become centers of excellence when fueled by modern expertise and deep-rooted traditions. This page focuses on emerging models that leverage cutting-edge technologies to develop digital services for businesses and citizens..

Supporting Silent Revolutions

If territorial development is the “body” of the Foundation, our avant-garde experiments represent its visionary mind. These projects explore the potential of emerging technologies to place them at the service of humanity, transforming complex innovation into practical tools for growth, funding, and knowledge.

Grant Observatory: The Engine That Starts It All

Innovation requires solid foundations and certain resources. Through a strategic partnership with BandoSubito, the Foundation has launched a permanent Grant Observatory, coordinated by Gianluca Cavaliere. This is not merely a search for funding, but a technological outpost that constantly analyzes regional, national, and European opportunities.

The breakthrough within this system is an advanced monitoring and design software. Utilizing matching algorithms, it identifies the grants most consistent with high-value ideas for the region. This revolutionary tool simplifies access to public resources and is continuously refined thanks to the LLM (Large Language Model) it utilizes.

This initiative embodies the Foundation’s commitment to supporting talent: it is a managerial resource made available to anyone with a project capable of generating a positive impact.

Information Point and DIP

The “gateway” to Valmorel is changing its face. Under the management of Sharon De Bonathe new local Information Point is nearing completion; its opening is scheduled for May and will be managed by the Foundation.
This space is designed to go beyond the institutional function of a “simple” tourist office. It aims to be a vital connection point between residents, visitors, and the territory—an extension of Laborel’s work, acting as a hub for dialogue, listening, and orientation for the area.

Looking to the future, the Foundation has two innovative initiatives for this project:

  • The DIP (Digital Information Point): An interactive product inspired by modern immersive structures. It will revolutionize access to local tourism information, offering a continuous service that complements human operators. This concept arises from the need to support Valmorel’s tourism growth, ensuring visitors can discover the local and provincial context (trails, facilities, etc.) in a simple, clear, and functional way.
  • Youth Engagement: Through internships and collaborations, young people will have the opportunity to propose their own ideas for the software and interface. The Foundation’s goal is to give full rein to their creativity, offering a privileged environment to learn how to manage and realize complex projects.
    • This project aspires to be an engine for social and digital innovation, much like those Elserino Piol imagined and pursued. It is an avant-garde model made possible by close collaboration with the Fondazione Dolomiti Bellunesi DMO and Consorzio Turistico Dolomiti Prealpi.

    ElserAIno: an Intelligent Memory

The most ambitious and symbolic idea of Epi-Hub is undoubtedly ElserAIno: a generative artificial intelligence created in partnership with Fondazione TIM, AASO – Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti and Dune tech-company

The AI will be trained on the work and vision of Elserino Piol, utilizing 600 linear meters of transcripts, correspondence, and unpublished documents that the Foundation has digitized. These records, previously preserved in the Olivetti Archive in Ivrea (Turin), represent an immense intellectual heritage that details Elserino’s contribution to Italian computing and his pivotal role in Olivetti’s managerial evolution.

The project seeks to reincarnate EPI’s vision, bringing his spirit and ideas back to life. How? ElserAIno will act as an internal strategic consultant. Far from being a mere database, the system will be a voice assistant that actively participates in the Foundation’s planning as an “attentive ear.” A synthetic voice—bold and perhaps a bit “gruff,” faithfully reproducing Elserino’s distinctive tone and style—will intervene in meetings to offer critical reflections and practical suggestions.

This system is a unicum in the technological landscape. It provides operational support while becoming a true “mentor” tool, transforming static information into dynamic, navigable knowledge. ElserAIno opens a window for dialogue between 20th-century models and modern challenges, offering divergent perspectives capable of guiding talent and inspiring new paths in ICT entrepreneurship.

For the Foundation, projecting the charisma and foresight of the “Father of Italian Venture Capital” into Tomorrow is not just a tribute to the past. It is an act of designing the future: a bridge where memory becomes code and matter to generate innovation.
